Sahih Muslim · Hadith 2264

حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة، حدثنا جرير، عن سهيل بن أبي صالح، عن أبيه، عن أبي سعيد، قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ إذا اتبعتم جنازة فلا تجلسوا حتى توضع ‏"‏ ‏.‏

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri that the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) said: When you follow a bier, do not sit until it is placed on the (ground).
