The Dictations · Hadith 266 (#Ḥadīth #4)

4 - حدثنا الحسين (3) بن أحمد بن إدريس (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أبي، عن محمد بن أحمد بن يحيى بن عمران الاشعري (4)، عن محمد بن علي، عن عيسى بن عبد الله العلوي العمري، عن أبيه، عن آبائه، عن علي (عليهما السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): اللهم ارحم خلفائي، ثلاثا. قيل: يا رسول الله، ومن خلفاؤك؟ قال: الذين يبلغون (5) حديثي وسنتي، ثم يعلمونها أمتي (6).

Al-Husayn b. Ahmad b. Idris narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us from Muhammad b Ahmad b Yahya b. `Imran al-Ash`ari from Muhammad b. `Ali rom `Isa b. `Abdullah al-`Alawi al-`Amri from his father from his forefathers from `Ali . He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: O Allah, have mercy on my vicegerents (khulafa’i) – three times. It was said: O Messenger of Allah! Who are your vicegerents? He said: Those who convey my narrations and my Sunna, then teach them to my Nation.
