The Dictations · Hadith 432 (#Ḥadīth #10)

10 - حدثنا أبي (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله بن أبي خلف، قال: حدثني أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن حماد بن عثمان، قال: جاء رجل إلى الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام) فقال له: يا بن رسول الله، أخبرني بمكارم الاخلاق. فقال: العفو عمن ظلمك، وصلة من قطعك، وإعطاء من حرمك، وقول الحق ولو على نفسك (1).

My father narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah b. Abi Khalaf narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad b. `Isa narrated to me from his father from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Hammad b. `Uthman. He said: A man came to al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad and said to him: O son of the Messenger of Allah! Inform me about noble character (makarim al-akhlaq). So, he said: Forgiving those who wrong you, connecting to those who cut you off, giving to those who withhold from you, and speaking the truth even if it against yourself.
