The Dictations · Hadith 458 (#Ḥadīth #1)

1 - حدثنا الشيخ الجليل أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أبي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن أبيه، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، عن مرازم بن حكيم، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق جعفر بن محمد، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن الروح الامين جبرئيل أخبرني عن ربي تبارك وتعالى: أنه لن تموت نفس حتى تستكمل رزقها، فاتقوا الله، وأجملوا في الطلب، وأعلموا أن الرزق رزقان: فرزق تطلبونه، ورزق يطلبكم، فاطلبوا أرزاقكم من حلال، فإنكم آكلوها حلالا إن طلبتموها من وجوهها، وإن لم تطلبوها من وجوهها أكلتموها حراما، وهي أرزاقكم لابد لكم من أكلها (1)

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hashim narrated to us from his father from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from Marazim b. Hakim from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad from his forefathers . He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Surely, the Trustworthy Spirit informed me from my Lord: “A soul does not die until its sustenance has been depleted. So, fear Allah, and beautify your pursuit of livelihood. Know that sustenance is of two types: sustenance that you pursue, and sustenance that pursues you. Pursue your sustenance lawfully. If you pursue it in the right manner, you will have consumed it lawfully, but if you do not pursue it in the right manner, you will have consumed it unlawfully. It is your livelihood, and you cannot but consume (deplete) it.”
