The Dictations · Hadith 46 (#Ḥadīth #1)

1 - حدثنا الشيخ الجليل أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه الفقيه (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن إبراهيم بن إسحاق (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد الهمداني، عن علي بن الحسن بن فضال، عن أبيه، قال: سألت علي بن موسى الرضا (عليه السلام) عن ليلة النصف من شعبان. قال: هي ليلة يعتق الله فيها الرقاب من النار، ويغفر فيها الذنوب الكبائر. قلت: فهل فيها صلاة زيادة على سائر الليالي؟ فقال: ليس فيها شئ موظف، ولكن إن أحببت أن تتطوع فيها بشئ فعليك بصلاة جعفر بن أبي طالب (عليه السلام)، وأكثر فيها من ذكر الله عز وجل، ومن الاستغفار والدعاء، فإن أبي (عليه السلام) كان يقول: الدعاء فيها مستجاب. قلت له: إن الناس يقولون: إنها ليلة الصكاك؟ فقال (عليه السلام): تلك ليلة القدر في شهر رمضان (1).

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Faqih narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Ishaq narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Muhammad al-Hamadani narrated to us from `Ali b. al-Hasan b. Faddal from his father. He said: I asked `Ali b. Musa al-Rida about the middle night of Sha`ban. He said: It is the night in which Allah frees necks from the Fire and forgives major sins. I said: Are there any extra prayers in it that make it differ from the rest of the nights? So, he said: There is nothing in particular, but if you would like to perform a voluntary deed therein, then pray the prayer of Ja`far b. Abi Talib , and increase your remembrance of Allah, your repentance, and your supplications therein. For, surely, my father would say: “Supplications therein are answered.” I said to him: The people say that it is the night of ordinance. So, he said: That is the Night of Qadr in the month of Ramadan.
