The Dictations · Hadith 488 (#Ḥadīth #15)

15 - حدثنا أبي (رضي الله)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، قال: حدثنا علي بن أسباط، قال: حدثنا علي بن أبي حمزة، عن أبي بصير، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليه السلام) أنه قال: يا أبا بصير، نحن شجرة العلم، ونحن أهل بيت النبي، وفي دارنا مهبط جبرئيل، ونحن خزان علم الله، ونحن معادن وحي الله، من تبعنا نجا، ومن تخلف عنا هلك، حقا على الله عز وجل (2).

My father narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi’l Khattab narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Asbat narrated to us from `Ali b. Abi Hamza from Abi Basir from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad . He said: O Aba Basir! We are the Tree of Knowledge. We are the people of the Household of the Prophet, and Gabriel descended in our house. We are the treasury of the knowledge of Allah. We are the deposit of the revelation of Allah. Whoever follows us is saved, and whoever turns away from us is destroyed – this is a responsibility on Allah.
