The Dictations · Hadith 674 (#Ḥadīth #8)

Chapter 64 | The Sixty-Fourth Assembly, the Assembly of Tuesday, the Sixth of Jumada al-Ula, 368 AH.

8 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن يحيى العطار، عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، عن علي بن أسباط، عن عمه يعقوب بن سالم، عن الصادق جعفر بن محمد (عليهما السلام)، قال: ثلاث من لم تكن فيه فلا يرجى خيره أبدا: من لم يخش الله في الغيب، ولم يرعو (2) عند الشيب، ولم يستحي من العيب (3).

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Yahya al-`Attar narrated to us from Muhammad b. al-Husayn b. Abi'l Khattab from `Ali b. Asbat from his uncle Ya`qub b. Salim from al-Sadiq Ja`far b. Muhammad . He said: There are three whose goodness cannot ever be hoped for: (1) He who does not fear Allah in private, (2) he who does not become pious after old age, and (3) he who is not ashamed of his faults.
