The Dictations · Hadith 713 (#Ḥadīth #9)
Chapter 68 | The Sixty-Eighth Assembly, which is the Assembly of Tuesday, Ten Days Remaining from Jumada al-Ula, 368 AH.
9 - حدثنا علي بن أحمد بن موسى الدقاق (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن هارون الصوفي، قال: حدثنا أبو تراب عبيد الله بن موسى الروياني، عن عبد العظيم بن عبد الله الحسني، قال: قلت لابي جعفر محمد بن علي الرضا (عليه السلام): يا بن رسول الله، حدثني بحديث عن آبائك (عليهم السلام). فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): لا يزال الناس بخير ما تفاوتوا، فإذا استووا هلكوا. قال: قلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): لو تكاشفتم ما تدافنتم. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): إنكم لن تسعوا الناس بأموالكم، فسعوهم بطلاقة الوجه وحسن اللقاء، فإني سمعت رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله) يقول: إنكم لن تسعوا الناس بأموالكم، فسعوهم بأخلاقكم. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): من عتب على الزمان طالت معتبته. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): مجالسة الاشرار تورث سوء الظن با لاخيار. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): بئس الزاد إلى المعاد العدوان على العباد. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): قيمة كل امرئ ما يحسنه. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): المرء مخبوء تحت لسانه. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): ما هلك أمرؤ عرف قدره. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): التدبير قبل العمل يؤمنك من الندم. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال يا أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): من وثق با لزمان صرع. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام) قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): خاطر بنفسه من استغنى برأيه. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): قلة العيال أحد اليسارين. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): من دخله العجب هلك. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): من أيقن بالخلف جاد بالعطية. قال: فقلت له: زدني يا بن رسول الله. فقال: حدثني أبي، عن جدي، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): من رضي بالعافية ممن دونه، رزق السلامة ممن فوقه، قال: فقلت له: حسبني (1).
`Ali b. Ahmad b. Musa al-Daqqaq narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. Harun al-Sufi narrated to us. He said: Abu Turab `Ubaydullah b. Musa al-Rawyani narrated to us from `Abd al-`Athim b. `Abdullah al-Hasani. He said: I said to Abi Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali al-Rida : O son of the Messenger of Allah! Narrate a hadith from your forefathers to me. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather from his forefathers . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: The people will remain in goodness so long as there is variance. If they are equalized, they will be destroyed. He said: I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from his grandfather from his forefathers . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: Were the veil lifted from you, you would not [want to] be buried. He said: I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from his grandfather from his forefathers . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: You cannot attract the people with your wealth, so attract them with a friendly face and a beautiful meeting. Surely, I heard the Messenger of Allah (s) say: “Surely, you cannot attract the people with your wealth, so attract them with your character.” He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather from his forefathers . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: He who reprimands time will prolong his own reprimand. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather from his forefathers . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: Gathering with evil ones bequeaths having a negative impression of the chosen ones. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather from his forefathers . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: Animosity toward the servants [of Allah] is the worst provision for the Hereafter. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather from his forefathers . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: The worth of every person is in what improves him. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: A person is hidden beneath his tongue. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: No person who knows his value will be destroyed. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: Thinking before you act will safeguard you from regret. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: He who relies on time will struggle. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: He who only takes from his own opinion has brought risk upon himself. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: Having few dependants is a simplifier [of life]. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: He who is filled with pride is destroyed. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: He who is certain of the Hereafter is generous in giving. He said: So, I said to him: Tell me more, O son of the Messenger of Allah. So, he said: My father narrated to me from my grandfather . He said: Amir al-Mu’minin said: He who wants wellness for those beneath him will be granted safety from those above him. He said: So, I said to him: This is sufficient for me.
