The Dictations · Hadith 725 (#Ḥadīth #9)

9 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا علي بن الحسين السعد آبادي، عن أحمد بن محمد بن خالد، قال: حدثنا أبو القاسم الكوفي، عن حنان بن سدير، عن أبيه، قال: قلت لابي جعفر الباقر (عليه السلام): هل يجزي الولد والده؟ فقال: ليس له جزاء إلا في خصلتين: أن يكون الوالد مملوكا فيشتريه فيعتقه، أو يكون عليه دين فيقضيه عنه (2).

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Husayn al-Sa`d Abadi narrated to us from Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Khalid. He said: Abu’l Qasim al-Kufi narrated to us from Hannan b. Sadir from his father. He said: I said to Abi Ja`far al-Baqir : Is a child rewarded for [helping] his father? So, he said: He is not given a reward except in two scenarios: (1) when the father is a slave, and he buys him and frees him. (2) When he has a debt, and he pays it for him.
