The Dictations · Hadith 785 (#Ḥadīth #3)

3 - حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن محمد بن أبي عمير، قال: حدثني من سمع أبا عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام) يقول: ما أحب الله عز وجل من عصاه، ثم تمثل فقال: تعصي الاله وأنت تظهر حبه * * هذا محال في الفعال بديع لو كان حبك صادقا لاطعته * * إن المحب لمن يحب مطيع (2)

Muhammad b. Musa b. al-Mutawakkil narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr. He said: One who heard Aba `Abdillah al-Sadiq heard him saying: One who disobeys Allah does not love him. Then, he recited: You disobey God yet you manifest your love for Him. This is impossible. Had you loved Him, you would have obeyed Him. Surely, the lover obeys the one he loves.
