The Dictations · Hadith 849 (#Ḥadīth #5)

5 - حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا محمد بن الحسن الصفار، عن أيوب بن نوح، عن صفوان بن يحيى، عن هشام بن سالم، عن أبي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام)، قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله): إن آدم شكا إلى الله عز وجل ما يلقى من حديث النفس والحزن، فنزل عليه جبرئيل (عليه السلام) فقال له: يا آدم، قل: لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله، فقالها فذهب عنه الوسوسة والحزن (1).

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid narrated to us. He said: Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Saffar narrated to us from Ayyub b. Nuh from Safwan b. Yahya from Hisham b. Salim from Abi `Abdillah al-Sadiq . He said: The Messenger of Allah (s) said: Adam complained to Allah about distress and grief, so Gabriel came down to him and said to him: O Adam! Say: “there is no ability nor power except by Allah (la hawla wala quwwata illa billah)”. So, he said it, and the whispering [of his distress] and the grief dissipated.
