The Dictations · Hadith 856 (#Ḥadīth #12)

12 - حدثنا أحمد بن زياد بن جعفر الهمداني (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه إبراهيم بن هاشم، عن علي بن معبد، عن الحسين بن خالد، قال: قلت للرضا (عليه السلام): يا بن رسول الله، أخبرني عن القرآن، أخالق أو مخلوق؟ فقال: ليس بخالق ولا مخلوق، ولكنه كلام الله (2).

Ahmad b. Ziyad b. Ja`far al-Hamadani narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. Ibrahim narrated to us from his father Ibrahim b. Hashim from `Ali b. Mu`abbad from al-Husayn b. Khalid. He said: I said to al-Rida : O son of the Messenger of Allah! Inform me about the Quran: is it the Creator, or is it created? So, he said: It is not the Creator, nor is it created, but rather it is the words of Allah.
