The Dictations · Hadith 922 (#Ḥadīth #1)

1 - حدثنا الشيخ الجليل أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن الحسين بن موسى ابن بابويه القمي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن الحسن القطان (رحمه الله)، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن يحيى، قال: حدثنا بكر بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا الحسن بن زياد الكوفي، قال: حدثنا علي بن الحكم، قال: حدثنا منصور بن أبي الاسود، عن جعفر بن محمد، عن أبيه، عن آبائه (عليهم السلام)، قال: لما مرض النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله) مرضه الذي قبضه الله فيه، اجتمع إليه أهل بيته وأصحابه، فقالوا: يا رسول الله، إن حدث بك حدث فمن لنا بعدك، ومن القائم فينا بأمرك؟ فلم يجبهم جوابا، وسكت عنهم. فلما كان اليوم الثاني أعادوا عليه القول، فلم يجبهم عن شئ مما سألوه. فلما كان اليوم الثالث قالوا له: يا رسول الله، إن حدث بك حدث فمن لنا من بعدك، ومن القائم فينا بأمرك؟ فقال لهم: إذا كان غدا هبط نجم من السماء في دار رجل من أصحابي، فانظروا من هو، فهو خليفتي عليكم من بعدي، والقائم فيكم بأمري، ولم يكن فيهم أحد إلا وهو يطمع أن يقول له أنت القائم من بعدي. فلما كان اليوم الرابع، جلس كل رجل منهم في حجرته، ينتظر هبوط النجم، إذ انقض نجم من السماء قد غلب ضوؤه على ضوء الدنيا حتى وقع في حجرة علي (عليه السلام)، فهاج القوم، وقالوا: والله لقد ضل هذا الرجل وغوى، وما ينطق في ابن عمه إلا بالهوى، فأنزل الله تبارك وتعالى في ذلك: (والنجم إذا هوى * ما ضل صاحبكم وما غوى * وما ينطق عن الهوى * إن هو إلا وحى يوحى) (1) إلى آخر السورة (2).

Abu Ja`far Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Husayn b. Musa b. Babuwayh al-Qummi narrated to us He said: Ahmad b. al-Hasan al-Qattan narrated to us He said: Ahmad b. Yahya narrated to us. He said: Bakr b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. Ziyad al-Kufi narrated to us. He said: `Ali b. al-Hakam narrated to us. He said: Mansur b. Abi’l Aswad narrated to us from Ja`far b. Muhammad from his father from his forefathers . He said: When the Prophet (s) became ill with the illness that Allah caused him to pass away with, his Ahl al-Bayt and his companions gathered to him and said: O Messenger of Allah! If something were to happen to you, who will be for us after you? Who will take charge of your authority over us? He did not respond to them and remained silent with them. On the second day, they repeated this saying to him, but he did not respond to them in anything that they had asked. On the third day, they said to him: O Messenger of Allah! If something were to happen to you, who will be for us after you? Who will take charge of your authority over us? So, he said to them: Tomorrow, a meteor will fall from the sky into the house of a man from my companions. So, look for him, for he is my vicegerent (khalifa) over you after me and the one who will take charge of my authority over you. So, there was not one among them except that they desired for him to say to them: “You will take charge after me.” On Wednesday, each man among them sat in his room, looking for the landing of the meteor, when a meteor fell from the sky. Its light overpowered the light of the world; until it landed in the room of `Ali . So, the people rushed and said: By Allah! This man is misguided and astray, and he has not spoken regarding his cousin except by desire. So, regarding this, Allah revealed, “By the star when it descends! Your companion is neither misguided nor astray, nor does he speak by desire. It is but an inspired revelation.” (53:1-4)
