Chapter 89 | The Eighty-Ninth Assembly, the Assembly of Sunday, the First of Sha`ban, 368 AH, in the House of al-Sayyid Abi Muhammad Yahya b. Muhammad al-`Alawi
11 - حدثنا أبي (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثنا سعد بن عبد الله، قال: حدثنا أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن أبيه، عن خلف بن حماد الاسدي، عن أبي الحسن العبدي، عن الاعمش، عن عباية بن ربعي، عن عبد الله بن عباس، عن أبيه، قال: قال أبو طالب للنبي (صلى الله عليه وآله): يا بن أخي، الله أرسلك؟ قال: نعم. قال: فأرني آية. قال: ادع لي تلك الشجرة. فدعاها فأقبلت حتى سجدت بين يديه، ثم انصرفت. فقال أبو طالب: أشهد أنك صادق، يا علي صل جناح ابن عمك (1).
My father narrated to us. He said: Sa`d b. `Abdullah narrated to us. He said: Ahmad b. Abi `Abdillah al-Barqi narrated to us from his father from Khalaf b. Hammad al-Asadi from Abi’l Hasan al-`Abdi from al-A`mash from `Abaya b. Rabi`i from `Abdullah b. `Abbas from his father. He said: Abu Talib said to the Prophet (s): O nephew! Did Allah commission you? He said: Yes. He said: Then show me a sign – he said: Call to this tree for me. So, he called to it, and it proceeded until it prostrated before him. Then, it went away. So, Abu Talib said: I bear witness that you are truthful. O `Ali, pray behind your cousin.
