The Dictations · Hadith 974 (#Ḥadīth #12)

- حدثنا محمد بن الحسن بن أحمد بن الوليد (رضي الله عنه)، قال: حدثني الحسن بن متيل الدقاق، قال: حدثني الحسن بن علي بن فضال، عن مروان ابن مسلم، عن ثابت بن دينار الثمالي، عن سعيد بن جبير، عن عبد الله بن عباس، أنه سأله، رجل فقال له: يا بن عم رسول الله، أخبرني عن أبي طالب، هل كان مسلما؟ فقال: وكيف لم يكن مسلما، وهو القائل: وقد علموا أن ابننا لا مكذب * * لدينا ولا يعبأ بقيل الا باطل إن أبا طالب كان مثله كمثل أصحاب الكهب حين أسروا الايمان وأظهروا الشرك، فآتاهم الله أجرهم مرتين (2).

Muhammad b. al-Hasan b. Ahmad b. al-Walid narrated to us. He said: Al-Hasan b. Matil al-Daqqaq narrated to me. He said: Al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Faddal narrated to me from Marwan b. Muslim from Thabit b. Dinar al-Thumali from Sa`id b. Jubayr from `Abdullah b. `Abbas. A man asked him, saying: O cousin of the Messenger of Allah! Tell me about Abi Talib. Was he a Muslim? So, he said: How can he not be a Muslim when he is the one that said: “They know that our son is not a liar, The false sayings do not receive our attention.” Surely, Aba Talib was like the companions of the cave, who kept the faith a secret and feigned paganism, so Allah gave them their reward twice.
