Chapter 53 | Instructions for Malik al-Ashtar upon his appointment as the governor of Egypt
وَلَا تَدَعْ تَفَقُّدَ لَطيِفِ أُمُورِهِمُ اتِّكَالًا عَلَى جَسِيمِهَا، فَإِنَّ لِلْيَسِيرِ مِنْ لُطْفِكَ مَوْضِعاً يَنْتَفِعُونَ بِهِ، وَلِلْجَسِيمِ مَوْقِعاً لَا يَسْتَغْنُونَ عَنْهُ.
Do not neglect to attend to their small matters, confining yourself to their important matters, because your small favours will also be of benefit to them while the important ones are such that they cannot ignore them.
