The Rewards & Punishments of Deeds · Hadith 1003 (#Ḥadīth #1)

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی سَعْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ مَنْدَلِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ الْعَبْرِیِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ مِسْمَعٍ عَنِ الْأَصْبَغِ بْنِ نُبَاتَهَ عَنْ عَلِیٍّ ع قَالَ: إِذَا غَضِبَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ عَلَی بَلْدَهٍ وَ لَمْ یُنْزِلْ بِهَا الْعَذَابَ غَلَتْ أَسْعَارُهَا وَ قَصُرَتْ أَعْمَارُهَا وَ لَمْ تَرْبَحْ تُجَّارُهَا وَ لَمْ تَنْزِلْ أَثْمَارُهَا وَ لَمْ تَجْرِ أَنْهَارُهَا وَ حُبِسَ أَمْطَارُهَا وَ سُلِّطَ عَلَیْهَا أَشْرَارُهَا.

1. My father said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from Ahmad b. Muhammad from al-Abbas b. Ma’ruf from a man from Mandal b. Ali al-’Abri from Muhammad b. Matraf from Masma’ from al-Asbagh b. Nabateh from Ali who said: “If Allah gets angry over a city but does not reveal His chastisement upon it, it faces inflation, lifespan of people is reduced, trade becomes profitless, there is shortage of fruits, rivers become dry, rainfall becomes scanty and mischief-mongers are made to overpower them.”
