Chapter 23 | Punishment of obeying wives

أَبِی ره قَالَ حَدَّثَنِی عَلِیُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِیِّ عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ع قَالَ عَلِیٌّ ع مَنْ أَطَاعَ امْرَأَتَهُ کَبَّهُ اللَّهُ عَلَی وَجْهِهِ فِی النَّارِ قِیلَ وَ مَا تِلْکَ الطَّاعَهُ قَالَ تَطْلُبُ إِلَیْهِ أَنْ تَذْهَبَ إِلَی الْحَمَّامَاتِ وَ إِلَی الْأَعْرَاسِ وَ إِلَی النَّائِحَاتِ وَ الثِّیَابِ الرِّقَاقِ فَیُجِیبُهَا.

1. Imam Ja’far Sadiq narrates from his ancestors that Amirul Momineen said, “A person who obeys his wife will be thrown headlong into Hell.” Imam was asked what he meant by obedience of wife. He replied, “Here obedience means that the wife asks her husband to accompany her to bath, weddings, sermons etc. while she hasn’t covered her body properly, and he agrees.”
