The Source of Traditions on Imam al-Riḍā (Vol 1) · Hadith 303 (#Ḥadīth #8)

8 - وَبِهذَا الإسناد عَنِ الرِّضا a.sُ عَنْ أَبيهِ مُوسَى بْنِ جَعْفَر a.sُ قالَ: كَتَبَ الصَّادِقُ a.sُ إِلَى بَعْضِ النَّاسِ إِنْ أَرَدْتَ أَنْ يُخْتَمَ بِخَيْرٍ عَمَلُكَ حَتَّى تُقْبَضَ وَأَنْتَ فِي أَفْضَلِ الأَعْمَالِ فَعَظِّمْ لِلَّهِ حَقَّهُ أَنْ تَبْذُلَ نَعْمَاءَهُ فِي مَعَاصِيهِ وَأَنْ تَغْتَرَّ بِحِلْمِهِ عَنْكَ وَأَكْرِمْ كُلَّ مَنْ وَجَدْتَهُ يَذْكُرُنَا أَوْ يَنْتَحِلُ مَوَدَّتَنَا ثُمَّ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ صَادِقاً كَانَ أَوْ كَاذِباً إِنَّمَا لَكَ نِيَّتُكَ وَعَلَيْهِ كَذِبُهُ.

30-8 According to the same documentation, on the authority of Al-Ridha (s), on the authority of his father Musa ibn Ja’far (s) that As-Sadiq (s) wrote a letter to someone and advised him as follows, “If you wish your deeds to have a good ending - so that when you die you have done the best you can - honor God’s right and do not use His Blessings in disobeying Him, and do not be too proud, since God is patient with you. Honor whomever you find who honors us, and respect whoever claims to like us. Then there will be no responsibility upon you, whether that is said honestly or it is a lie. You will benefit from your intentions, and they will be responsible for their lies.”
