The Source of Traditions on Imam al-Riḍā (Vol 2) · Hadith 470 (#Ḥadīth #1)

1 - حَدَّثَنا أَحْمَدِ بْنِ زِيادِ بْنِ جَعْفَر الْهَمَذانيّ قالَ:حَدَّثَنا عَلِىِّ بْنِ إِبراهِيمِ بْنِ هاشِم، عَن أَبيهِ عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ بْنِ يَزِيد قالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا a.sُ فَذَكَرَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ فَقَالَ إِنِّي جَعَلْتُ عَلَى نَفْسِي أَنْ لا يُظِلَّنِي وَإِيَّاهُ سَقْفُ بَيْتٍ فَقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي هَذَا يَأْمُرُنَا بِالْبِرِّ وَالصِّلَةِ وَيَقُولُ هَذَا لِعَمِّهِ فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ هَذَا مِنَ الْبِرِّ وَالصِّلَةِ إِنَّهُ مَتَى يَأْتِينِي وَيَدْخُلُ عَلَيَّ فَيَقُولُ فِيَّ فَيُصَدِّقُهُ النَّاسُ وَإِذَا لَمْ يَدْخُلْ عَلَيَّ وَلَمْ أَدْخُلْ عَلَيْهِ لَمْ يُقْبَلْ قَوْلُهُ إِذَا قَالَ.

47-1 Ahmad ibn Ziyad ibn Ja’far al-Hamadani - may God be pleased with him - narrated that Ali ibn Ibrahim ibn Hashem quoted on the authority of his father, on the authority of Umayr ibn Yazid, “I was with Abil Hassan Ar-Ridha’ when he talked about Muhammad ibn Ja’far ibn Muhammad and said, ‘I have made it incumbent upon myself not to live with him under the same roof.’ It occurred to me that the Imam advises us to establish close ties with our relations, but he says this about his own uncle! The Imam looked at me and said, ‘This act is a good deed in itself. When he comes to see me and goes, he says things and the people believe what he says. However, if he does not associate with me, no one will accept what he says.’”
