The Sufficient (Vol 2) · Hadith 2188 (#Ḥadīth #13)

13ـ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ جَمِيلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) قَالَ مَرَّ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيٌّ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) بِقَوْمٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالُوا عَلَيْكَ السَّلامُ وَرَحْمَةُ الله وَبَرَكَاتُهُ وَمَغْفِرَتُهُ وَرِضْوَانُهُ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) لا تُجَاوِزُوا بِنَا مِثْلَ مَا قَالَتِ الْمَلائِكَةُ لأبِينَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ (عَلَيهِ السَّلام) إِنَّمَا قَالُوا رَحْمَةُ الله وَبَرَكَاتُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ.

13. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from ibn Mahbub from Jamil from abu ‘Ubaydah al-Hadhdha’ from abu Ja’far who has said the following: “Once Amir al-Mu’minin, Ali ibn abu Talib passed by a people and offered them the greeting of peace and they answered, ‘(We offer) you peace, May Allah grant you favors, blessings, forgiveness and His pleasure.’ Amir al-Mu’Minin said to them, ‘Do not say to us more than what the angels said to Ibrahim. They said, ‘May Allah grant you favors and blessings, O the people of the house’ (of the Holy Prophet).”’
