The Sufficient (Vol 3) · Hadith 703 (#Ḥadīth #1)

1ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ وَزُرَارَةَ وَمَعْمَرِ بْنِ يَحْيَى وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ الْجُعْفِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) قَالَ لَيْسَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ قِرَاءَةٌ وَلاَ دُعَاءٌ مُوَقَّتٌ تَدْعُو بِمَا بَدَا لَكَ وَأَحَقُّ الْمَوْتَى أَنْ يُدْعَى لَهُ الْمُؤْمِنُ وَأَنْ يَبْدَأَ بِالصَّلاَةِ عَلَى رَسُولِ الله (صلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه).

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from ibn ’Udhaynah from Muhammad ibn Muslim and Zurarah from and Mu’ammar ibn Yahya and ’Isma‘il al-Ju’fiy who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far , has said, ‘There is no particularly prescribed prayer to say in Salah (prayer) for a deceased. You can pray whatever prayer you like; and the most deserving is the believing person who has just died and that such prayer begins with prayer for the Messenger of Allah by saying, ‘O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.’”
