The Sufficient (Vol 3) · Hadith 815 (#Ḥadīth #1)

1ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ جَمِيعاً عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ الْحُرِّ قَالَ سُئِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنْ رَجُلٍ مَاتَ فِي سَفِينَةٍ فِي الْبَحْرِ كَيْفَ يُصْنَعُ بِهِ قَالَ يُوضَعُ فِي خَابِيَةٍ وَيُوكَى رَأْسُهَا وَيُطْرَحُ فِي الْمَاءِ.

1. Abu Ali al-Ash’ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar and Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan all from Safwan ibn Yahya from ibn Muskan from Ayyub al-Hurr who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah , was asked about one who dies in a ship in the ocean. He (the Imam) said, ‘The deceased is placed in a vat and with its opening sealed is thrown into the water.’”
