Chapter 40 | Gambling and Looting

1. A number of our people have narrated from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Sayf ibn ‘Amirah from Ziyad ibn ‘Isa and he is abu ‘Ubaydah al- Hadhdha’ who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before abu ‘ Abd Allah , about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘You must not consume your assets in invalid dealings among your selves. . . (2:184) He (the Imam) said, ‘Among Quraysh a man gambled even his wife and property. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, prohibited such dealings.’”
