Chapter 77 | The Vinegar and Oil

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سَالِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) يَأْكُلُ الْخَلَّ وَ الزَّيْتَ وَ يَجْعَلُ نَفَقَتَهُ تَحْتَ طِنْفِسَتِهِ .

9. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Asbat from his uncle Ya’qub ibn Salim who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah , saying, ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin, would eat vinegar with oil and keep his expenses under the carpet.’”
