Chapter 78 | The Khali (Wine Turned to Vinegar)

عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّا لَنَبْدَأُ بِالْخَلِّ عِنْدَنَا كَمَا تَبْدَءُونَ بِالْمِلْحِ عِنْدَكُمْ فَإِنَّ الْخَلَّ لَيَشُدُّ الْعَقْلَ .

5. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Aban ibn ‘Abd al-Malik from ’Isma‘il ibn Jabir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah , has said, ‘We begin with vinegar which is with us as you begin with salt which is with you, and vinegar strengthens the ability to understand better.’”
