Chapter 124 | The Radish

عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُنْدَارَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْهَمَذَانِيِّ عَنْ حَنَانٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ كُنْتُ مَعَهُ عَلَى الْمَائِدَةِ فَنَاوَلَنِي فُجْلَةً وَ قَالَ يَا حَنَانُ كُلِ الْفُجْلَ فَإِنَّ فِيهِ ثَلَاثَ خِصَالٍ وَرَقُهُ يَطْرُدُ الرِّيَاحَ وَ لُبُّهُ يُسَرْبِلُ الْبَوْلَ وَ أَصْلُهُ يَقْطَعُ الْبَلْغَمَ .وَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ أُخْرَى وَرَقُهُ يُمْرِئُ .

1. Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bandar from his father from Muhammad ibn Ali al-Hamadaniy from Hanan who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘ Abd Allah , saying; when I was with him at the table of food, he gave me a piece of radish and said, ‘O Hanan, you must eat radish because there are three qualities in it; its leaves repel gas, its essence quickens urine, and its root cuts off phlegm.’ In another Hadith it is said that its leaves make it pleasant.”
