The Sufficient (Vol 6) · Hadith 1568 (#Ḥadīth #6)

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) تَخَلَّلُوا فَإِنَّهُ يُنَقِّي الْفَمَ وَ مَصْلَحَةٌ لِلِّثَةِ .

6. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from Ali ibn al-Nu’man from Ya‘qub ibn Shu’ayb from those who narrated to him who has said the following: “Once, prepared toothpicks were brought to abu al-Hassan , when he was in the house of Fadl ibn Yunus. He (the Imam) took a fragment (piece) and left the rest.’”
