The Sufficient (Vol 6) · Hadith 1704 (#Ḥadīth #9)

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ وَ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ دَاذَوَيْهِ قَالَ كَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) أَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ شَارِبِ الْمُسْكِرِ قَالَ فَكَتَبَ ( عليه السلام ) شَارِبُ الْخَمْرِ كَافِرٌ .

9. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Ya’qub ibn Yazid from Muhammad ibn Dadhawayh who has said the following: “I once wrote to abu al-Hassan, asking him (the Imam) about drinking intoxicating liquor. He (the Imam) wrote back in answer, ‘A wine drinker is an unbeliever.’”
