Chapter 22 | Wine is Prohibited because of its Effects; whatever has an Effect as the Effect of Wine, it is Wine

4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Mu’awiyah ibn Hakim from abu Malik al-Hadramiy from abu al- Jarud who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja‘far , ‘Why Allah has prohibited wine?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He has prohibited it because of what it does and its destructive effects.’”
