Chapter 17 | The Footgear

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ قَالَ نَظَرَ إِلَيَّ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ عَلَيَّ نَعْلَانِ مَمْسُوحَتَانِ فَأَخَذَهُمَا وَ قَلَبَهُمَا ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي أَ تُرِيدُ أَنْ تَهَوَّدَ قَالَ قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنَّمَا وَهَبَهُمَا لِي إِنْسَانٌ قَالَ فَلَا بَأْسَ .

9. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from certain persons of our people from ibn Suwayd who has said the following: “Once abu al-Hassan, looked at me when I was wearing sandals which were smooth. He (the Imam) took it in his hand and turned it, then said to me, ‘Do you want to be like Jews?’ I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, it is only what a human being has given to me as a gift.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It then is not unlawful.’”
